My Story
Hi, I’m Erin, and welcome to Shropshire Tallow Co., where I create small-batch soaps and skincare in Austin, TX. My journey began after being diagnosed with CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) and eczema. CIRS interferes with my body’s ability to eliminate toxins, and eczema heightened my awareness of how harsh everyday products can be on the skin. Most skincare products are full of synthetic fragrances and preservatives, which my body can’t easily process. I needed safer, simpler options for myself and my family, leading me to explore the benefits of grass-fed tallow.
That’s when I started crafting handmade soap using grass-fed tallow and pure essential oils. These natural tallow ingredients are minimal and easier for the body to handle compared to long lists of synthetic additives. With the skin-nourishing fats found in tallow and the support of botanicals, my soaps provide your skin with exactly what it needs and nothing it doesn’t.
Every product I create follows the same philosophy: minimal ingredients and nothing artificial. Just pure, simple skincare designed to care for your skin while lightening your daily toxic load.

Handmade Character
Every bar from Shropshire Tallow Co. is poured, cut, and cured by hand, using high-quality grass-fed tallow. This means no two bars of our handmade soap will ever be exactly the same. My goal isn’t cosmetic perfection, but creating a bar you can trust: simple, non-toxic, and made to lighten the daily load of caring for yourself and your family with our sustainable tallow products.
Weight & Shape
Each bar of our small batch soap is hand-cut and varies in weight. I always list the weight of the smallest bar in a batch so you can count on getting at least that much, although many bars are larger.
Soda Ash
Some bars may develop a light, powdery film called soda ash. It’s a harmless part of the soap-making process that washes away with the first use. I like to think of it as a natural, rustic finish that reminds me perfection isn’t the goal.
Gel Rings
Occasionally, you might see a faint circle in the center of a bar. This happens when part of the soap goes through gel phase and part does not. It’s purely cosmetic, safe, and fades as you use the soap. I see it as another mark of the handmade process, a reminder that each batch has its own character.
Batch Variations
Because I work in small batches, you may notice subtle differences in color, swirl patterns, or topping placement. Each bar is unique, but the ingredients, including our natural tallow, and care that go into them are always the same.
Sustainability & Simplicity
Shropshire Tallow Co. is dedicated to a minimalistic approach, focusing on everything from ingredients to packaging. I use whole, traditional ingredients, like grass fed tallow, that you can recognize and trust, while avoiding unnecessary extras that contribute to waste. Our packaging is kept simple, and is recyclable or compostable whenever possible, as the world doesn't need more clutter.
Since every batch of our handmade soap is crafted in small batches, sometimes the scent may not be as strong or may not carry as planned. However, these bars are still made with the same high-quality natural tallow ingredients, and I choose to offer them at a discount rather than waste them. Sustainability means honoring the effort and materials that go into each bar, even when the outcome varies slightly from expectations.
